17, 2019 there was a good turn-out of members to witness the annual arthur rogers cup competition held at st augustine’s golf club and organised by ramsgate rotary club of which arthur rogers had been a member. the event was organised by past president derek brown, who also went on to win the impressive cup. he had a score of 94 followed by current president henry golding on 120 and john searles on 104 the golf was followed by a meal at the club, and the president had a special word of thanks for those who had prepared and served the meals as well as the work put in by derek brown. read more tea time july 7, 2019 ramsgate rotary club and the inner wheel, joined forces to provide a chance for those who do not often get out and about to do just that! more than 30 local residents enjoyed rides through the countryside and ended up at minster village hall, where a tea was waiting for them. among those who enjoyed the occasion was kathleen powell, who celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this year and denis scott, who was 90 the week before. they were all welcomed by rotary president henry golding, who also expressed thanks to rotarians and inner wheelers who had worked hard to make the occasion such a success. read more new president takes over july 3, 2019 every thanet rotary club was represented when ramsgate club installed henry golding as its president for the new rotary year, taking over from pat hersant. the out-going president said it has been a very successful year for the club. its christmas collections had raised over £4,000 for the charity funds and hundreds of toys distributed through social services. mr golding said he had joined the club six years ago and was very proud to become president. he planned to repeat the successful events of the past year, including an old folks tea and ride in the local countryside, the quiz held in conjunction with the inner wheel club as well as the golf and putting competitions. the club would present the third £1,000 was strengthened when the two clubs held a joint meeting on board p & o ferry spirit of france, between dover and calais. the ramsgate members boarded the ferry at dover, and boulogne members were already waiting. they enjoyed a joint meal ending in time for the french to leave the ferry when it returned to calais, leaving the ramsgate team to enjoy the benefit of club class on the journey back busy hub may 25, 2019 members were given a real insight into the tremendous work being put in by staff and volunteers at quarterdeck youth hub in zion place margate when they held their weekly meeting at the hub. it included a meal, prepared and served by members of staff volunteers and some young regulars at the hub. members learned about some of the many activities which are held on a regular basis. they include football sessions, youth club, chit chat sessions, well-being activity sessions, and even an opportunity for some to undergo the duke of edinburgh award scheme. the club is now people in thanet over the age of 60, who suffer from the effects of macular disease. the figures were given by samantha amphlett , the regional fund raiser for the macular society to members of ramsgate rotary club. she revealed that there are already groups for those affected by the disease in thanet with one meeting on a monthly basis at harbour parade. she explained how the society helped with such things as support to improve lives for those affected, as well as funding research into the disease. read more an illustrated talk january 31, 2019 well-known local artist, mike samson, gave us a superb ’illustrated talk’. he created a landscape picture from scrap while giving a commentary on what he was doing and why, he threw in the occasional funny story and also gave a brief summary of how he got into art and eventually created york street gallery in ramsgate seven years ago. he was introduced and thanked by president pat hersant. read more boost for charities december 31, 2018 the club raised a record £4,745 for its charity funds with their christmas collections, including the santa sleigh visiting several parts of the town, as well as static collections at various shops and in the town centre. the main organiser, henry golding said: “ people were very generations with their donations, and it is wonderful we have been able to raise a record amount. i would like to thank all those who took part in any collections and, of course, those who contributed. the club also, with the help of a number of local schools collected hundreds of toys for distribution through local social services. club president, pat hersant said: ‘ i am delighted with the result. it means we will have extra funds to make available to charities, including many which are based locally. the in at ramsgate town centre on wednesday. he was based on the ramsgate rotary club sleigh and members of the club at the same time were collecting for their charities fund. the christmas collections
